Top 5 Driving Apps

Top 5 Driving Apps

We are all busy people living in a fast-paced society, so what other time is perfect to get some important business out of the way than in the silence of your car? The only problem is the dangers associated with texting, emailing, or talking on the phone while operating a vehicle. At Nine Multimedia. Inc. we value our safety and, even though we’ve told you about plenty of entertaining applications, we’ve come up with a list that will help you while you drive.

1. Trapster – $Free

Speeding appears to get you to your destination quicker and is fun for some, until you see red and blue lights flashing in your rearview mirror. With this app you can upload locations of where police are located for other trapster users to see and vice versa. You can also see the paths that other Trapster users are driving on so that you can drive on police-free roads.  There’s also an option to communicate with other Trapster users in real time.

Available on iPhone, iPad, Android, Blackberry, Nokia, Windows Mobile Palm and Garmin & TomTom

2. VoiceTEXT – $4.99

This app lets you respond to text messages on-the-go by using your voice alone. Even if you have to leave the app for some reason, it will let you pick up your message where you left off. No more risking a rear-ended accident or screeching to a halt at a red light because you were trying to work the keyboard on your phone.

Available on iPhone, iPad, and Android

3.Buzzed – $.99

While most likely not a best friend to our “Protect and Serve” workers, this app is useful because it tells you where DUI checkpoints are in your city and when you use the device’s GPS, it will inform you if there are any hot spots within a 20-mile radius of your location. To avoid being on the lookout, there are a few BAC apps to let you know if you are over your limit.  Stop yourself from getting caught driving drunk and even more importantly, drive safe.

Available on iPhone, iPod, Touch and iPad

4. Vlingo – $free

Have you ever been expecting an important text or email and when it finally came in you were driving? Or have you been driving and saw something that you wanted to tell your Facebook friends or ‘Tweeps’ about with an update? Well, this app does all of that and more. You can listen to emails out loud and respond to texts and email using just your voice. You can also open Google Maps, search the web, and dial your phone with voice command

Available on iPhone, Blackberry, Nokia, Windows Mobile, Android

5. Ford Sync

Even though this technically isn’t considered a mobile app, this is most certainly an important feature to have that will keep drivers safe. Ford has developed a system that allows drivers to operate the commands of nearly any mobile phone by using their voice, the vehicle’s steering wheel, or radio controls.

Some other apps that allow voice text, voice dialing and other commands are:

Voice On-The-Go
Voice assist
Jott
BlueAnt
Text’n Drive

Tom Marchesello, CEO of Nine Multimedia, agrees that if you just can’t seem to put down your phone while you drive, make sure you download one of these apps to make it a little safer.

Top 5 Most Useful Barcode Scanning Mobile Apps

Here at Nine Multimedia we strive to stay on top of the most cutting-edge technology in the mobile marketing universe.  Recently, we’ve noticed a major trend proliferating the smartphones of savvy shoppers nationwide: price-comparison shopping apps.  Through the incorporation of breakthrough barcode scanning technology, these apps provide consumers with a completely unique, on-the-go and informed shopping experience that ultimately saves them money.  There are hundreds of barcode apps out there but do not fear – here is our list of the top 5 most useful apps for your next shopping adventure. In this economy, we can’t imagine anything smarter to add to your smartphone.

1) RedLaser (Free) – Hands down the best premium barcode scanning app out there for the iPhone.  RedLaser seeks out the lowest online and local prices from hundreds of thousands of retailers and recognizes UPC, EAN, UPC-E and EAN-8 barcodes.  This app uses Google Products and Amazon to deliver its customer the most useful information and lowest prices.  There are also ways to make your bargain-savvy shopping experience sharable – users can store barcode scans, compile shopping lists from them and send them as attachments to their friends.  The newest version of this app even provides you with product listings in local libraries so that you have the option to borrow books, CDs and DVDs.

2) Save Benjis+ ($2.99) – This app is excellent for price comparison.  Not only does it have exceptional barcode scanning technology, it also has keyword search options so that you can search millions of products and their prices in Google’s product database and in FindersCheapers.com.  This app supports a very large variety of barcode types, and makes finding products far easier because it lets you search by the product’s name, number, manufacturer, director, software platform, author and more.  The one thing missing from Save Benjis + is that it does not list local prices the way RedLaser does – everything is online only.

3) Underscore Price Check Pro ($0.99) – This app provides price quotes from an extensive online shopping directory: Amazon, Google Products, Shopzilla, Bizrate, PriceGrabber, PriceRunner, Bing, Yahoo Shopping, and even iTunes.  One great aspect of Underscore Price Check Pro is that it gives you the option to read online reviews of books and movies and listen to samples of music on iTunes before purchasing them so that you have a better feel of what you’re investing in.  Unfortunately, this barcode scanner only really works well with smartphones with autofocus on their cameras, so make sure you have the latest iPhone or Android before you make this purchase!

4) Android Barcode Scanner (Free) – This app does what most of the above apps do but it is designed explicitly for Droid users.  You can scan barcodes with your camera, look up prices and reviews and even scan QR codes that hold URLs, calendar events and contact info.  College students, this might be useful for you – with this app, you can search for a particular word to see where it reoccurs in different books and therefore research is made a lot easier.  Oh.  One more thing.  This Droid app now scans Chinese characters!

5) SnapTell (Free) – Snap a picture of the barcode on a product you’re looking to compare prices of and within seconds you’re getting ratings, price, description, links to Google, Youtube, Wikipedia, IMDb.  In fact, barcode scanning isn’t all – you can snap a picture of the cover of a book, DVD, video game or CD and you will get the same results as the barcode scan – links to multiple sites that will give you reviews and help you find the best price.

Tom Marchesello, CEO of Nine Multimedia, says that the surge in popularity of these barcode scanning apps has effected a double-sided outcome.  Shoppers are given on-the-go access to more information than they ever have had before, which appears to be a viable threat to retailers.  However, retailers are now more aware of the importance of an online presence and will exert far more efforts in competitive pricing online in order to secure their customers.

What do you think will be the outcome of these price comparison apps?  Let us know!

Top 10 Mobile Apps for Outdoor Adventures

Are you a man of the great outdoors?  Is it difficult for you to resist the call of the wild?  Look no further, adventurers.  Here at Nine Multimedia, CEO Tom Marchesello firmly believes in the universal applicability of mobile apps for every person and occasion. Gear up and take a look at our Top 10 list of the most useful mobile apps for getting your Bear Grylls on.

1)  TrailBehind: Find Adventures Nearby ($0.99) – Not sure where to start out on your next outdoor escapade?  TrailBehind holds the key with details on hiking trails, biking trails, mountains that you can climb, and good grounds for camping.  It will tell you how long each trail is and locates the ones closest to you so that you will never be left with a boring afternoon again.

2)  Surf Report (Free) – “Wave” goodbye to flat surf and disappointment upon arriving at the beach.  Powered by Surfline, this app is a surefire way to plan out your next surfing adventure!  Oakley Surf Report provides you with info on surf height, swell and weather; you can also check out the latest surf news, surf videos and get updated bios on the professionals sponsored by the Oakley Team.  To top it all off, this app is free.

3) Anti Mosquito 3.1 ($0.99) – Even the most enthusiastic outdoorsman gets annoyed at these bloodsucking little pests – this awesome app promises to repel mosquitoes by emitting an extremely high pitch frequency.  It is developed to work in sleep mode to save battery power, while you’re playing music, and even has a “kids-safe” option so that you don’t destroy little Johnny’s hearing.

4) iSurvive Wilderness ($1.99) – Stuck in a scary situation out in the wild?  This app teaches you the most rudimentary survival tactics when braving the elements.  With easy-to-understand explanations and detailed graphics, you will be instructed on how to build shelters, find clean drinking water, tie knots, build fires and set snares.  Most importantly, this app engages your mind, forces you to think logically and reduces panic – the most essential element of survival.

5) Qwik Hunting Calls & Sounds ($0.99) – Whether you’re a hunter or just enjoy calling wild animals into your midst, this app plays over 35 of the most popular and effective animal sounds and hunting calls.  It’s suggested that you hook up your smartphone to external amplified speakers for the highest level of effectiveness, but despite that inconvenience, c’mon.  Where else would you find a Whitetail Deer Bellow, Wood Pecker Distress Call or Jack Rabbit Scream all rolled into one?

6)Pocket First Aid & CPR ($3.99) – This app has been made famous for helping save the life of Tom Woolley, a man who was trapped under rubble for 65 hours in Haiti.  Containing first aid checklists and procedures for any situation (CPR, choking, burns, seizures, diabetic emergencies), this app is an incredible resource for you and your loved ones.  How can you say no to an app that has been proven to save a life?

7)Flashlight (Free) – This app brightens your world in dark situations.  It uses the LED light on your iPhone so that you can find your way to a real flashlight or just back to your tent.  Apparently you can make the light change colors and flash, which is always aesthetically pleasing.  Just be careful of using it for prolonged periods of time – it wears out your battery pretty fast.

8 )Fishing by HuntFishTracker (Free) – No need for all those pockets in your fishing vest, this is an online fishing journal and a great fishing analysis tool all rolled into one compact iPhone app!  You can set up your app with the location you plan on fishing at, the different rods you use and bait data so that once you get to your spot you will beprepared.  It enables you to take photos, store them, provides GPS, fish data and mapping services.  Just make sure you set up a Web Storage Account so that you can save all your information and share your catches with your fishing buddies.

9)Yahoo! Fantasy Football (Free) – Ok.  So you’re stuck in the middle of the wilderness but that shouldn’t stop you from staying on top of your fantasy football team.  Check your player and league stats, make changes to your roster and watch live score updates as you go!  While you’re at it, don’t hesitate to text your fellow drafters to gloat about your score.

10) Wild Mushrooms of North America and Europe ($1.99)– Let’s say you’re stuck in the wild with no food left.  That patch of mushrooms looks delicious, doesn’t it?  To eat, or not to eat?  That may be the question but look no further for the answer.  This app holds 2,400 photographs of over 1,550 Wild Mushrooms and other fungi and tells you which ones are edible, hallucinogenic, or poisonous.  You won’t be scrolling through all of the pictures – the app has a useful key where you can put in details of size, shape, color, and habitat which will let you know if the mushroom is dangerous or edible.

Have you tried any of these apps while exploring the great outdoors?  Let us know!

Huge Savings Ahead!

Have you ever been driving by one of your favorite shopping centers and wondered what sales some of those stores were having? Particularly the stores you’d like to frequent, but can never really find the time to step into? Well all of that’s about to change. Retailers are now finding a way to send you notifications about what’s happening in their store, when you are in close proximity. So you’ll no longer have to look for the sale-the sales will find you!

Don’t worry, the stores won’t try to track you down. This feature will be permission based and their GPS is solely used to save you money by letting you know when the latest deals have arrived!

Tom Marchesello, CEO  of Nine Multimedia believes, “Sending out notifications has always been a beneficial strategy. Targeting those messages to consumers nearby is likely to have an even more positive outcome for retailers.” Recent studies are being conducted to see if this tactic actually attracts customers to the store that is sending out these notifications, but chances are it will work. Consumers are likely to appreciate being notified about sales in their area, rather than having to find bargains on their own.

Would you be interested in receiving notifications on the go? Let us know!

$35 Bucks for a Computer Prototype

The Tablet market is dominated by the Apple iPad worldwide, but things may spice up. India is entering the competition with cost effective technology.  They have developed a computer prototype; a touch screen tablet for $35.00which, at some point, will fall as low as $10.00 at the shelf.

The tablet is a Linux- based computer complete with an Internet Browser, word program, and PDF reader among other features. Memory cards are needed in the absence of a hard drive, which draws parallels to smartphones, but the designers insist its more computer than anything. The main goal of this prototype is educational. College students and staff alike, with the help of the new tablet, will be better equipped and connected to one another thus enhancing educational relationships, strategies, and goals.

Tom Marchesello, CEO of Nine Multimedia, believes that products like this will give marketers the opportunity to enter and utilize space in the tablet market. “If tablets became the internet user’s choice after or instead of the mobile phone this will be a huge canvas for marketers”.

The 60 million smartphone users will probably represent the early adopters of this technology. In India the main access to the Internet is through the phone. But, now there is a really interesting proposal to plug massive broadband to increase the quality and speed of the Internet. Many mobile ‘surfers’ will turn to computers do to this dynamic coupled with falling hardware pricing points. The latter has created some controversy. Competitors are wary of this strategic move knowing it is going to put pressure on them to drop prices. As any market in its infancy will prove; only time will tell.

Hello, Marketers. Look at Your Ad Campaign, Now Back to Old Spice.

Today could be just like the other 364 days you log into twitter, or maybe the Old Spice man shows up @OldSpice.

July 12, 2010 10:32:59 PM PDT via web

Wednesday, July 12, 2010 could have been just like any other day but the Old Spice man did show up, and in the digital marketing world, this heralded one of the most radically innovative marketing moves to date.

Clad only from the waist-down, muscles rippled and gleaming, Isaiah Mustafa is the personification of confidence in every Old Spice commercial.  He is the actor who plays the charming, bear-crushingly masculine, humorously over-enunciated character who transforms oysters into diamonds, rides backwards on horses, swan-dives into your hypothalamus and triggers your humor receptor.  Mustafa is the “Man Your Man Could Smell Like,” the ultimate symbol of the 2010 Old Spice campaign, and on Wednesday, July 12, he became a part of marketing history.

In the span of two days, over 100 videos were posted on the Old Spice channel on YouTube where Mustafa delivered personalized messages to comments that had been collected via YouTube, Twitter and Facebook.  The lucky recipients of these personalized messages ranged from random, unknown YouTubers, Tweeters and Facebook fans, to more prominent bloggers, to extremely prominent celebrities (Alyssa Miano and Perez Hilton) and even sports teams (NHL Blackhawks), who all at some point had commented on one of Old Spice’s social media outlets.

Here at Nine Multimedia, we are on the constant lookout for the most innovative marketing strategies and have a great appreciation for the “man’s man” lifestyle.  Tom Marchesello (CEO) agree that Old Spice has developed an ingenious combination of these two things in its most recent marketing move.  We realize that modern users of social media and the web are no strangers to the viral video marketing campaigns that have exploded onto the Internet in recent years, as a completely new industry has sprung from this cutting edge marketing technique devoted to the creation of infectious and new videos.  However, Old Spice has taken the viral video and launched it into astronomical levels of innovative marketing with its release of custom-made videos on YouTube.

What exactly makes this marketing campaign so innovative and effective?  Let Nine Multimedia guide you through the marketing genius of Old Spice:

1)      It was launched in Real Time. This is completely revolutionary not only due to the incredible immediacy of the release of videos – it demonstrates a completely new type of marketing initiative where a select group of writers, technicians and the actor were given the trust and freedom to create videos sans heavy supervision and production processes. Iain Tait, Creative Director of Wieden + Kennedy’s Global Interactive in an interview with Read Write Web, said “We just brought a character to life using the social channels we all [social media geeks] use every day.  But we’ve also taken a loved character and created new episodic content in real time.”  Viewers, mouths agape, watched these videos uploaded back-to-back for hours.

2)      It was geared toward both low and high profile Internet users. Old Spice did not discriminate – it responded to comments from the common YouTube user and Tweeter in addition to high profile celebrities and media outlets.  This was particularly clever because it broke the mold and catered to the typically ignored and unknown internet user, while simultaneously garnering publicity in extremely high profile media outlets like Perez Hilton, the Ellen show, and prominent blogger sites.

3)      It was personalized. We all love to watch, share and comment on funny commercials and videos, but when have we ever been responded to?  THIS is what makes Old Spice brilliant – by making the common viewer noticed, appreciated, and responded to as an individual.  Mustafa will answer your question on whether eyebrows count as facial hair; he will propose to your woman for you; he will tell you that he is indeed mortal, just as the most courageous lion-king of the jungle is mortal too.

4)      It was hilarious and addictive. After watching one, how could you stop?  The brilliant combination of writing and acting made it difficult to stop laughing and/or clicking on newer videos.

5)      It promoted Old Spice to a New demographic. Old Spice is no longer the heady aftershave you associate with your grandpa.  This marketing campaign has targeted a young, hip, completely new generation of men and women – a marketing goldmine for an old product.

We commend Old Spice for its creativity and innovative strategies.  The only thing that has left us scratching our heads is that the actual numbers in sales have not significantly increased as they were expected to in relation to this massive wave of publicity.  What do you think of the Old Spice strategy?  Let us know!
